Marston Group is a family-owned property development, construction and retirement village group scaling fast across Sydney. We're a small, agile team that moves quick and takes on projects most groups our size wouldn't touch, backed by decades of experience.

The Role

We're looking for the 2IC to the CFO, someone who wants to build real financial infrastructure inside a growing group and help take it to the next level. As Financial Controller, you'll lead and develop the finance function, covering accounting, tax, controls, policy, treasury and financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance function by building financial strategy, systems, and policies that allow the group to scale

• Manage the accounting team and own the operational backbone: AP, payments, payroll and BAS

• Lead the monthly management reporting and the year-end cycle, including group consolidation, trust accounting and income tax returns

• Handle complex transactions like land purchases and entity closures

• Ensure accuracy, relevance and timeliness of financial data across the group

• Support debt raising, loan covenants, and bank relationships as we fund new projects

• Manage group insurances and other operational risk

About You

This is a great opportunity for a Senior Accountant, Finance Manager, or operational finance professional ready to step up, with a genuine path to Head of Finance or CFO within 3-5 years.

• You've outgrown pure compliance work and want to be closer to the business, moving from bank reconciliations to financing structures in the same week without missing a beat

• You take ownership without needing to be chased

• You're comfortable leading a team while still rolling your sleeves up yourself

• You have sharp systems thinking and natural leadership

• Background in property and trust accounting is a strong plus but not essential

• Mandarin proficiency is a bonus, though not required
