Network Engineer

The opportunity

Marble Arch Consulting Group (MAC) is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our Melbourne-based Managed Services team.

This hands-on position has a particular focus on Aruba ClearPass and Cisco Meraki, supporting customers across network access control, switching, wireless and secure network operations.

You’ll monitor and maintain customer environments, investigate and resolve incidents, deliver approved changes, and assist with the implementation and transition of new solutions into production.

The role is suited to an engineer with at least three years of relevant experience who is comfortable taking ownership of technical issues, working directly with customers and coordinating with vendors and other technical teams.

What you’ll be doing

• Support and administer Aruba ClearPass environments

• Configure and troubleshoot ClearPass authentication, authorisation and network access-control policies

• Support Cisco Meraki switching and wireless infrastructure through the Meraki Dashboard

• Investigate network access, authentication, connectivity and wireless performance issues

• Monitor customer network and security environments and respond to alerts

• Resolve incidents, service requests and work orders within agreed SLAs

• Take ownership of assigned tickets throughout their full lifecycle

• Provide customers and internal stakeholders with clear and timely updates

• Coordinate incident resolution with customers, vendors and other technical teams

• Implement standard and approved changes, including occasional out-of-hours changes

• Assist with network upgrades, migrations and new solution implementations

• Produce implementation plans, test plans, operational procedures and as-built documentation

• Create and maintain technical knowledge articles and support runbooks

• Onboard and maintain customer devices within network-monitoring platforms

• Provide accurate handovers for open incidents and in-flight changes

• Contribute to service reporting and continuous improvement initiatives

• Assist junior engineers and share technical knowledge across the team

What you’ll bring

• A minimum of three years’ hands-on experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure

• Practical experience administering and troubleshooting Aruba ClearPass

• Experience supporting Cisco Meraki switching and wireless environments

• A good understanding of network access control, 802.1X, RADIUS and authentication methods

• Strong knowledge of switching, routing, VLANs, wireless networking and TCP/IP

• Experience troubleshooting complex network, wireless and connectivity issues

• Experience working within ITIL incident, change and problem-management processes

• Experience using network-monitoring and IT service-management or ticketing platforms

• Cisco CCNA, Aruba certification or equivalent knowledge demonstrated through practical experience

• A systematic and measured approach to troubleshooting

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to work effectively with customers, vendors and internal technical teams

• Willingness and eligibility to work staggered rostered hours and participate in an on-call rotation

Experience with any of the following would also be valuable:

• Aruba switching and wireless infrastructure

• Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, wireless controllers or ISE

• Meraki MX security appliances and SD-WAN

• Fortinet FortiGate and FortiManager

• Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama

• Zscaler Branch Connector or Zscaler Internet Access

• MPLS and enterprise SD-WAN

• SolarWinds or PRTG

• ServiceNow or a comparable ITSM platform

• Network scripting or automation

• CCNP, Aruba, Fortinet or ITIL certifications

• An MSP, managed-services or shared-services environment
