Lab Assistant

Hey! We’re Single O, a caffeinated crew serving top-notch coffee while keeping the gears turning behind the scenes. Right now, we’re looking for a Lab Assistant with a sharp eye for detail who takes pride in keeping our daily cuppings, coffee samples and green coffee library accurate, organised and running smoothly.

Reporting to the coffee quality team, you’ll support consistent quality decisions by preparing cuppings, maintaining accurate sample records and keeping the green coffee library organised and traceable.

What do we want? 

We want someone who is highly organised, enjoys following clear processes and understands that the small details matter. You’ll be comfortable completing hands-on tasks, entering information accurately and making sure every sample, label and record is exactly where it needs to be.

You’ll also be comfortable on your toes, the role involves standing for extended periods and completing repetitive, hands-on tasks in a busy production environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and pack down daily roasted batch and sample cuppings

• Accurately weigh, grind, arrange and prepare coffee samples

• Break and skim samples according to required timings

• Wash dishes and clean cupping equipment, keeping the lab organised and ready for the next day.

• Receive, date-stamp and accurately log samples in Cropster

• Complete and record moisture, water activity and density readings

• Label, weigh, package and store samples correctly

• Maintain an accurate and organised green coffee library

• Roast samples as required for cupping and evaluation

• Assist with light labelling or boxing of small items when needed

• Follow all food-safety, hygiene and work health and safety procedures, including the safe use of hot water, grinders, sample-roasting equipment, cleaning products and manual-handling practices.

• A practical, hands-on approach

• The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively

• An interest in coffee, quality assurance or laboratory-style environments

• Experience with coffee cupping or Cropster, although this is not essential

• Availability to work approximately 4–5 hours per day, Monday to Friday
