Communications Officer

About the role

This is a hands-on, design and production-focused communications role. You'll spend your time designing graphics, shooting and editing video, taking photographs and creating digital and campaign content for use across social media, workplaces and member communications. You'll work closely with organisers, campaign staff and union leadership to tell the stories of health workers and produce communications that inform members, move people to action and build union power.

Key responsibilities

• Design high-quality graphics and campaign materials for digital and print

• Shoot and edit video content, including interviews, campaign videos and short-form social content

• Produce high-quality photography of members, workplaces, rallies and events

• Develop campaign branding, visual identities and creative concepts

• Create and manage regular content across HWU's social media channels

• Produce member communications including emails, SMS, campaign updates and website content

• Work with organisers and members to identify and tell compelling worker stories

• Take creative projects from initial concept through to final production

• Stay across emerging creative techniques and technologies, including AI

About you

• A strong graphic designer with a good eye for layout, typography and visual communication

• Confident shooting and editing engaging video content

• Comfortable with photography and photo editing

• Able to take creative projects from concept through to final production

• Familiar with creating content for social and digital platforms

• A capable writer and communicator

• Creative, organised and able to work at pace across competing priorities

• Comfortable working collaboratively with organisers, members and campaign staff

• Committed to workers' rights, fairness and collective action

• Experience with some combination of: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent video editing software, graphic design for digital and print, videography, photography and photo editing, short-form social video, Canva and other content-production tools, After Effects, motion graphics or animation, developing campaign, brand or organisational visual identities, website and digital content production

Benefits

• Salary of $80,000-$100,000 + 12% super, depending on skills and experience

• Full-time role based in Abbotsford, with reduced FTE arrangements open to discussion
