Pet Carer / Animal Attendant

About the role

Our Pet Carers are responsible for the day-to-day care, safety and wellbeing of animals staying at Hedgegrove Pet Retreat. This is an active role and involves being on your feet, cleaning, lifting, handling animals and working both indoors and outdoors.

Key responsibilities

• Feeding and caring for dogs, cats and other pets
• Cleaning and maintaining accommodation areas
• Exercising and enriching animals
• Monitoring behaviour, appetite, health and general wellbeing
• Reporting any health or behavioural concerns
• Safely handling dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments
• Following feeding, medication and care instructions
• Assisting with customer arrivals and departures
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection control and presentation
• Working closely with supervisors, managers and other carers

About you

• Reliable and consistent
• Calm and confident around animals
• Comfortable handling dogs of different sizes and temperaments
• Observant and able to identify changes in behaviour or health
• Physically capable of working in a fast-paced animal-care environment
• Able to follow procedures and instructions carefully
• Comfortable working independently when required
• A good communicator with both customers and other staff
• Team-focused and willing to help where needed
• Able to manage time and priorities effectively

Previous experience in boarding kennels, veterinary clinics, dog daycare, animal shelters, grooming, dog training or another professional animal-care environment is highly regarded. Formal animal-care qualifications are also valued, but practical ability, reliability and attitude are equally important.

Availability across a rotating 7-day roster including weekends, public holidays and peak holiday periods is essential. Australian Driver's Licence, ability to perform physically demanding duties, and First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain) are required. Confidence working around dogs of varying sizes and temperaments is necessary.
