About the role

We are seeking an experienced Chief Operations Manager to join O'Connell Retail Group on a full-time basis at our head office in Imbil, QLD 4570. This is a strategic leadership position that will have a significant impact on the operational success and efficiency of our retail business. You will be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the organisation, ensuring seamless execution of business objectives and driving continuous improvement across all functions. This role reports directly to senior leadership and is integral to the organisation's success and growth trajectory.

Key responsibilities

• Developing and implementing operational strategies that align with the organisation's strategic objectives and financial targets

• Overseeing all operational functions including supply chain management, inventory control, store operations and logistics

• Managing budgets, cost control and resource allocation across all operational departments

• Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, health and safety standards, and company policies across all retail locations

• Leading and motivating operational teams, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement

• Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and implementing corrective actions to achieve operational targets

• Implementing systems and processes to streamline operations and improve efficiency and productivity

• Liaising with senior management and other departments to ensure operational alignment with broader business strategy

• Managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts to optimise costs and service delivery

• Identifying opportunities for operational innovation and process improvement

What we're looking for

• A minimum of 10 years' experience in operational management within the retail or similar fast-paced commercial environment

• Proven experience in a Chief Operations Officer or Operations Manager role at a senior leadership level

• Strong strategic thinking abilities with the capacity to translate strategy into operational execution

• Excellent financial acumen and experience managing significant budgets and P&L responsibility

• Demonstrated experience in supply chain management, inventory management and logistics optimisation

• Outstanding leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams

• Proficiency in operational systems and technology, including ERP systems and data analytics tools

• Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all organisational levels

• A thorough understanding of retail industry challenges, trends and best practices

• Tertiary qualifications in business management, commerce or a related discipline preferred
