Family Lawyer | 3 -5 years PAE | Brisbane | Remote

There are plenty of family law roles offering “flexibility”. This one is actually structured around it.

We are working with a specialist Brisbane family law practice looking to add an experienced Family Lawyer with approximately 3–5 years’ PAE to its growing team.

This is a particularly strong opportunity for someone who enjoys the autonomy that comes with running their own matters but doesn’t want that to mean being left entirely to their own devices. You’ll have ownership of your files and client relationships, experienced support when you need it, and the freedom to manage your working day without unnecessary office-based expectations.

Your day-to-day work can be performed remotely, with attendance at Court and other in-person commitments as required.

The Practice:

This is a focused family law practice with a clear approach to its work: give clients practical advice, establish a strategy early and, wherever possible, work towards a sensible resolution rather than creating conflict for the sake of it.

That doesn’t mean avoiding difficult matters. The team is equally comfortable handling contested proceedings when litigation becomes necessary, giving you exposure to a genuine mix of advisory, negotiation and Court-based family law work.

The practice is led by an experienced family law practitioner and offers the technical backing of a specialist team without the hierarchy or rigidity you might associate with a larger firm.

The Work:

You’ll manage your own portfolio of family law matters across areas including:

• Parenting and children’s matters

• Property and financial settlements

• Divorce and separation

• Binding Financial Agreements

• Spousal maintenance

• Negotiations, mediations and dispute resolution

• Contested proceedings and Court work

You’ll have direct responsibility for your clients and matters, with the scope to make decisions, progress files and build strong client relationships rather than simply working underneath more senior lawyers.

What We’re Looking For:

This role is aimed at a lawyer who has already developed a solid grounding in family law and is ready for genuine ownership of their practice.

Ideally, you will have:

• Approximately 3–5 years’ PAE, predominantly in family law

• Experience managing matters from initial advice through to resolution

• Confidence dealing directly with clients, other practitioners and Counsel

• Strong drafting, negotiation and file management skills

• The judgement to know when a matter should be resolved and when it needs to be fought

• The ability to work effectively and independently in a remote environment

You don’t need to know everything. What matters is that you can confidently run your day-to-day files, exercise good judgement and know when to draw on the experience around you.
