The Organisation

Our client is a growing and commercially focused organisation currently going through a period of significant positive change.

The business has experienced considerable growth and transformation and continues to invest heavily in its systems, processes and finance capability.

There is a lot happening across the organisation, including systems transformation, process improvement and broader growth-related initiatives, creating an environment that is fast-moving, complex and continually evolving.

The finance function is well positioned within the business and works closely with senior leadership. You will also gain regular exposure to a highly commercial and impressive CFO who is closely involved in the ongoing development of the finance function and broader business.

With continued growth expected, there is genuine opportunity for someone joining the team to develop their responsibilities and progress over time.

Offices are located in the CBD and hybrid working is in place with 2 days per week available to be worked from home.

The Position

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a broad Financial Accountant role covering the core fundamentals of financial accounting while also providing exposure to a changing and evolving finance environment.

The role is unlikely to be overly rigid or narrowly defined. Instead, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable taking ownership, working across a variety of priorities and contributing wherever required as the business continues to grow and transform.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the month-end close and monthly financial reporting process
  • Preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments
  • Completing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Investigating variances and maintaining the integrity of financial information
  • Supporting management and statutory reporting requirements
  • Assisting with external audit and preparation of supporting documentation
  • Supporting tax, compliance and broader financial control activities
  • Assisting with cash flow and working capital reporting
  • Partnering with other areas of the business to improve the quality of financial information
  • Supporting ERP, systems transformation, automation and finance process improvement initiatives
  • Helping strengthen internal controls, reporting processes and documentation
  • Supporting broader finance projects and initiatives as the organisation continues to evolve
The underlying position description places a strong emphasis on transformation, ERP optimisation, automation, reporting improvement and partnering across finance and operational teams.

Why Apply?

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for someone who enjoys working in an environment where there is plenty happening and where finance is evolving alongside the broader business.

You will gain:
  • Exposure to a business experiencing significant growth and positive change
  • Involvement in systems transformation, automation and finance improvement initiatives
  • Regular exposure to a highly commercial CFO and experienced Financial Controller
  • Broad financial accounting experience rather than a narrowly defined role
  • The opportunity to work within a complex and evolving commercial environment
  • Strong exposure across reporting, controls, systems and business improvement
  • Hybrid working from a Melbourne CBD location
  • Genuine career progression as the organisation and finance team continue to grow
The working environment is fast-paced, transformation-oriented and highly accountable, with a strong focus on ownership and continuous improvement.

The Profile

We are looking for a strong Financial Accountant with solid commercial industry experience who is comfortable operating in a complex and changing environment.

The successful candidate will ideally have previously worked within a business that has experienced significant growth, transformation or organisational change, and will understand that roles in these environments are not always perfectly structured.

You will need to be comfortable with changing priorities, ambiguity and taking responsibility outside a narrowly defined position description when required.

Ideally, you will bring:
  • Previous experience working as a Financial Accountant within industry
  • Experience within a relatively complex, high-growth or rapidly changing organisation
  • Strong month-end accounting experience
  • Good knowledge of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience supporting monthly financial and management reporting
  • Exposure to statutory reporting, audit and financial controls
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with ERP/accounting systems
  • Exposure to systems implementation, transformation or process improvement would be highly regarded
  • The ability to work effectively in an environment where priorities and responsibilities may evolve
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurately to deadlines
  • A proactive, hands-on and adaptable approach
  • Confidence communicating with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • An interest in improving systems, automation and finance processes
CA/CPA qualification, or progress towards qualification, would be highly regarded.
