About the role

As Finance Analyst, you will support the accuracy, integrity and continuous improvement of Hume Bank’s finance and regulatory reporting activities. Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, you will perform key reconciliations,  contribute to financial and management reporting, and assist with APRA and other regulatory reporting.
This is a hands-on and varied role. You will investigate discrepancies, validate financial and regulatory data, prepare clear supporting workpapers, support audits and help maintain strong financial controls. You will also contribute to system enhancements, automation and process improvements that reduce manual effort and improve reporting quality.
The role is well suited to an early-career finance professional who enjoys working with data and solving problems while building experience across financial reporting, regulatory reporting and broader finance activities within an APRA-regulated, customer-owned bank.

What you can expect
  • Assist with the preparation, validation and review of APRA prudential returns and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Perform General Ledger and control account reconciliations, investigate exceptions and support timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end activities, management reporting, annual financial statements and supporting analysis.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and other financial analysis activities.
  • Analyse financial and operational data to identify trends, anomalies, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare and maintain clear workpapers, procedures, supporting documentation and control evidence for review, audit and regulatory reporting.
  • Contribute to finance system enhancements, automation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the Bank to resolve data, reporting and process issues.
About you

To be successful in this role, you will:
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline.
  • Be working towards, or prepared to undertake, a CA or CPA qualification.
  • Bring at least two years’ experience in accounting, finance or a related role.
  • Have sound knowledge of accounting principles, including reconciliations, journals, accruals and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrate strong Microsoft Excel capability and confidence working with large datasets.
  • Bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and prepare well-structured workpapers and documentation.
  • Understand the importance of financial controls, risk management and compliance obligations.
  • Show initiative and a practical approach to process improvement, learning and collaboration.
It would be advantageous if you also have experience in banking, financial services or another regulated industry; exposure to APRA or other regulatory reporting; or familiarity with TechnologyOne, Power Query, Power BI or SQL.
