Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this position is ideal for a hands-on doer who takes complete ownership of core accounting execution. You will be responsible for rolling up your sleeves to manage end-to-end operational accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and day-to-day financial controls, delivering accurate, high-quality numbers and analysis directly to the Finance Manager to support executive-level reporting.

The role and responsibilities:

In this highly operational position, you will be the core accounting engine of the team, taking ownership of routine financial workflows while digging into the numbers to provide clear variance commentary for leadership.

Core responsibilities include:

• Hands-on accounting and control: Execute month-end closing processes, prepare detailed management accounts, perform complex P&L and balance sheet reconciliations, and maintain robust internal controls.
• Financial analysis and insights: Analyse store-level performance, monitor product margins, and dissect cost structures, delivering clear variance analysis directly to the Finance Manager.
• Reporting preparation: Build accurate, high-quality monthly financial reporting packs and board schedules that explain the story behind the numbers.
• Forecasting and planning support: Assist the Finance Manager with rolling financial forecasts, annual budgeting cycles, and cash flow analysis across our national network.
• Operational accuracy: Identify and resolve reporting anomalies, ensure tax and statutory compliance, and maintain general ledger integrity.
• Process optimisation: Continuously seek ways to streamline day-to-day financial workflows, automate routine accounting tasks, and strengthen corporate systems.

We are seeking a grounded, detail-oriented financial professional who thrives in a fast-moving, high-volume retail, wholesale, or distribution environment. You take genuine pride in numerical accuracy and enjoy rolling up your sleeves to get the core work done, while possessing the analytical capability to articulate what the numbers mean.

Your background:

• Professional qualifications: Full CA or CPA accreditation is mandatory.
• Relevant experience: Solid track record in a broad Management Accountant, Senior Financial Accountant, or operational Finance Business Partner equivalent role within a multi-site retail, FMCG, or commercial environment.
• Hands-on capability: Strong core technical accounting expertise with proven experience executing month-end procedures, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Analytical skills: Ability to dig beneath the surface of financial data, identify underlying drivers, and present clear findings to the Finance Manager.
• Technical capability: Advanced Excel proficiency; hands-on experience with modern ERP systems and reporting software is highly regarded.
• Personal attributes: Strong work ethic, high attention to detail, and a self-motivated, pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
