Our current accounts officer is going into a well-deserved retirement hence why we're looking for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Officer to join our team and help support the continued success of the business. Our clients include respected organisations such as Ampol, Brisbane City Council, QBuild, Transurban and Logan City Council, and we're proud of the reputation we've built for quality, reliability and professionalism.

About the Role

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of the accounts function and being an integral part of the business.

Reporting directly to the Director, you'll be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations while ensuring all bookkeeping, payroll and compliance obligations are completed accurately and on time.

Your responsibilities will include:

Bookkeeping & Accounts

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Xero.

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • Process supplier invoices, payments and supplier statement reconciliations.

  • Prepare and issue customer invoices.

  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.

  • Monitor aged receivables and assist with debtor follow-up.

  • Maintain supplier, customer and employee records.

  • Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS.

  • Prepare end-of-financial-year reporting including TPAR, QLeave and WorkCover declarations and renewals.

  • Ensure all accounting records are accurate and maintained in a timely manner.

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems and financial processes.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Process weekly payroll accurately and on time.

  • Manage STP reporting, superannuation and PAYG obligations.

  • Maintain employee payroll records.

  • Assist with onboarding documentation and employee administration where required.

  • Ensure payroll remains compliant with current legislation.

About You

We're looking for someone who is proactive, highly organised and confident working independently. You'll be someone who enjoys solving problems, improving systems and taking pride in maintaining accurate financial records.

To be successful you'll have:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in bookkeeping, accounting or an assistant accountant role.

  • Strong working knowledge of Xero.

  • Experience administering Xero, including payroll and system settings.

  • Proven experience processing payroll, PAYG and superannuation.

  • Strong reconciliation skills across bank accounts, credit cards and general ledger accounts.

  • Experience managing accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work closely with the business owner and senior management.

  • A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a growing business.
