If you’ve run big, busy venues, you already know the feeling. A show going up. Bars five deep. A rooftop coming alive. Multiple events running simultaneously. More than 2,000 patrons moving through the venue in a single night, and everyone looking to you to keep it moving.

That’s the role.

We’re looking for a hands-on General Manager of Operations to lead one of Melbourne’s most unique hospitality and entertainment venues.

Spiegel Haus isn’t built around a single experience. It’s home to a 100-year-old Spiegeltent presenting cabaret and live performance for up to 350 guests, a multi-level rooftop with multiple bars and event spaces, including an amphitheatre-style live music and DJ venue accommodating up to 1,200 patrons. On a busy night, you’ll lead an operation welcoming more than 2,000 guests across multiple experiences, all happening at the same time.

We had a successful first season. Now we’re preparing for an even bigger second season, launching in September 2026. We’re looking for an operational leader who thrives on bringing people, performance and exceptional guest experiences together under one roof.

Operational Excellence

Run a unique, multi-faceted venue operating across hospitality, theatre and live entertainment. Coordinate multiple experiences simultaneously while ensuring every part of the operation runs safely, efficiently and consistently.

People Leadership

Build capable leaders who create exceptional teams. Develop capability, accountability and a culture where people grow and stay.

Customer & Patron Experience

Champion every guest experience, ensuring every event and every interaction delivers on the Spiegelhaus promise to expect the unexpected.

Commercial Performance

Own the integrated P&L across hospitality and theatre, driving labour productivity, margins and operational profitability.

What you’ll do

•    Lead the operational delivery of a complex, multi-faceted venue trading across hospitality, theatre and live entertainment.

•    Coordinate multiple concurrent events across the venue, ensuring seamless execution every night.

•    Build the operating rhythm across seven-day trade and late-night operations.

•    Lead Hospitality, Theatre Operations and Maintenance Managers creating a leadership team that performs without constant oversight.

•    Own labour planning, rostering, operational planning and resource allocation.

•    Maintain exceptional standards of presentation, compliance and venue maintenance.

•    Build strong relationships with producers, suppliers, regulators and key stakeholders.

•    Oversee Liquor Licensing, WHS, EPA and statutory compliance.

•    Drive operational profitability through disciplined commercial decision making.

What you’ll bring

•    Senior leadership experience within high-volume hospitality, entertainment or live event operations.

•    Experience delivering large-scale live events or complex entertainment operations.

•    Strong commercial acumen with ownership of labour, margins, budgeting and integrated P&L performance.

•    A proven ability to build high-performing leadership teams and strong operational cultures.

•    Deep understanding of liquor licensing, WHS and late-night venue compliance.

•    The judgement, resilience and adaptability to thrive where no two nights are the same.
