What you are looking for
As an experienced bookkeeper, you are looking for a position where you can be respected for your skills in a permanent part-time position three days a week.
You would also like to use your skills to take responsibility for the accounts of a growing medium sized business, working directly with senior management to improve financial management and business processes. You would enjoy working in a central Sydney office with a small, creative team.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced bookkeeper / office manager to join the MOSS & SPY team at our Australian designed and manufactured fashion business based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs at Surry Hills.
The position is three days a week or we would consider equivalent hours over four or five days (at our office) to allow for other commitments and work/life balance.
We need a highly organised person who can handle routine book-keeping with ease but also has the capacity and enthusiasm to support the broader office management of our growing, medium sized business. We need someone who can:
Work confidently with senior management to keep all accounts up to date, identifying issues before they arise and preparing the regular reporting statements required for business management and government obligations.
Apply the skills you have learnt in an Australian fashion business or other Australian business with integrated production and retail operations.
Add value to the business by identifying opportunities for improvements in financial reporting and processes that will deliver increased efficiency and profitability.

We manage production and operations from our head office & warehouse in Surry Hills in Sydney. We have stores in Sydney and Melbourne as well as national distribution through David Jones and selected boutiques in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a rapidly-growing online and social media following.
Who are you?
Experienced and qualified: You are qualified in bookkeeping or accounting and have experience and with the financial management of medium-sized Australian businesses.
Technical skills: You are skilled at using Xero and Excel to create reports including using linked sheets, formulas and macros. You are familiar with production management systems and retail platforms like Shopify.
Good communicator: You will enjoy communicating with the team at head office team and in our stores. You know how to manage suppliers and customers, including chasing up late payments and solving any issues.
Interest in fashion production and management: You already know Australian fashion production and management or you can apply your previous experience with Australian production and retail businesses to fashion operations.
Important part of the team: You will enjoy being part of a dynamic and creative fashion brand and working directly with the teams responsible for all aspects of the business from the head designer through to production, wholesale, retail and ecommerce.
What is the role?
Your contribution to the business will include, but not be limited to:
Manage transactions in XERO and integrated business software: Accurately and efficiently manage transactions in Xero generated by our integrations with Shopify and our production management software (Sync) as well as manual book-keeping entry as required.
Reconciliation, accounts receivable and payable: Matching payments and receipts with bank feeds, identifying any mismatches with the chart of accounts and resolving any reconciliation issues.
Payroll: Managing fortnightly payroll for permanent and casual employees, using our online rostering system and Xero payroll, including accurate allocations and payment of penalty rates and superannuation.
BAS, PAYG, Tax: Applying your understanding of tax and government requirements to manage BAS and PAYG liabilities, accurately preparing and lodging our obligations by due dates. Liaising with our external accountant on more complex issues.
Reporting: Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to support decision making, including comparative analysis of P&L, Balance Sheet and other reports with clear summaries and recommendations.
Office admin and management: Supporting the office admin and management functions across the business, including operational requirements for head office and stores.
Trust and risk management: Proactively identifying financial risks through internal controls and regular audit checks on expenses.
Financial process improvement: Contributing to the development of processes and tools to improve business efficiency and profitability across the business.
