About the role:

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing Information Technology team within a large, enterprise environment. This role will be working full time in an on-site setting, with the option to be based out of our Wollongong office, or our Glendenning office.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, supporting, and continuously improving data pipelines, enterprise integrations and data platform services that enable reliable data movement, trusted reporting, and operational decision-making across the organisation. The role collaborates closely with Applications, Business Intelligence, Operations, and other business stakeholders to ensure data engineering and integration solutions are robust, secure, well documented, monitored and aligned to business needs.

The successful candidate will contribute to building a best-practice integration and data management capability within the Data and Integration Team, spanning platform technologies, development standards, data quality controls, automation, governance, and operational support.

Duties:
  • Document business processes, data flows, and integration points, and identify opportunities to improve data architecture, platform capability, and operational workflows.
  • Design, build, support and optimise data pipelines, data transfer processes, integrations and replication solutions across the technology landscape and application portfolio.
  • Contribute to the design, development and documentation of integration patterns, standards and reusable artefacts that enable reliable data movement across the enterprise.
  • Support the design, development and implementation of data engineering and systems architecture solutions across Azure, Snowflake, and other approved data platforms.
  • Optimise enterprise data storage, transfer, orchestration and retrieval processes for performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Support data quality by implementing validation, auditing, monitoring, and logging processes that ensure consistency, security, and integrity.
  • Contribute to the development of data models, schemas and structures that support operational, reporting, and analytical needs.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies in data engineering, integration, and analytics, and provide technical guidance, support and mentoring to the broader team.
Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with common programming and scripting languages such as Python, SQL, JavaScript, Java, or C#.
  • Demonstrated experience with relational database technologies such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern data engineering platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric or Snowflake.
Highly desirable:
  • Experience in a similar role involving data and integration management within complex enterprise environments, including ERP, CRM, or HCM platforms.
  • Experience with integration technologies such as Boomi, MuleSoft, Tibco or Workato.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience working within Information Technology services across large, complex organisations providing systems architecture and ICT solutions.
  • Experience working with geospatial databases and tools such as FME, Esri ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Practical knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks such as ITIL and project delivery methodologies such as Agile or PRINCE2.
