About our Organisation:

Youth Off The Streets is a not‑for‑profit organisation that provides safety, support and opportunities for young people to build a positive future. Our services include crisis accommodation and housing support, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice programs, life skills and employment pathways, cultural support and community engagement.

We focus on early intervention and community‑led support that empowers young people, strengthens families and builds safer, more connected communities. Our work is grounded in trauma‑informed practice and guided by The Sanctuary Model, ensuring safety, emotional wellbeing and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role:

Everyone’s potential deserves to be realised especially young people finding their way through tough moments.

We are recruiting seven Crisis Accommodation Youth Workers to join our IWYHS team, working across our Marrickville and Erskineville crisis refuges. All roles support children and young people (CYP) experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, using trauma‑informed, strengths‑based practice.

Your work is hands‑on, relational and grounded in safety, structure and emotional intelligence. You’ll support CYP with complex needs including trauma histories, family breakdown, mental health challenges, substance use and justice involvement while helping them build independent living skills and move toward longer‑term stability.

Role Option 1: Crisis Accommodation Youth Worker (Rotating Roster)

6 Vacancies
72 hours per month | Up to 8‑hour shifts | Evenings & weekends
Based at either our Marrickville or Erskineville refuges

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, crisis‑response environment and can work across a rotating roster. You’ll provide consistent, structured support to CYP in residence, respond to incidents, and maintain a safe, calm environment.

Role Option 2: Crisis Accommodation Youth Worker (Weekday Short Shifts)

2 Vacancies
4‑hour shifts (3-7 pm) | Monday to Friday | Daytime hours
One vacancy each at our refuges at Marrickville and Erskineville

This role suits someone who prefers shorter, predictable shifts and can provide focused support during key daytime periods. You’ll assist with routines, independent living skills, safety planning and purposeful engagement.

What you'll do:

  • Provide day‑to‑day support to CYP using trauma‑informed, strengths‑based practice

  • Maintain a safe, structured environment and respond appropriately to crisis, distress and conflict

  • Collaborate with the Crisis Accommodation Case Worker to support CYP case plan goals

  • Assist with property upkeep to ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment

  • Provide purposeful intervention aligned to case management plans

  • Maintain high‑quality records that meet legislative and organisational requirements

What you'll bring:

  • Certificate IV in Youth Work or Community Services (minimum)

  • 2+ years’ experience in the youth services field

  • Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice and crisis response

  • Ability to remain calm, objective and compassionate under pressure

  • Experience supporting young people with complex needs

  • Respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and commitment to cultural safety

  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts (for rotating roles) or weekday short shifts (for 4‑hour roles)
