Accountant/Senior Bookkeeper

Cairncross Dockyard is home to one of only two existing dry docks in Australia. ASSIST Maritime is modernising Cairncross Dockyard as a world-class sustainment hub for Australia's existing and future fleets.

The development of the Cairncross Dockyard is a significant infrastructure construction project. We're seeking an experienced accountant or senior bookkeeper to join our team and play a key role in delivering a landmark maritime project for Brisbane.

Opportunity:

You will be the primary finance resource on the ground during the establishment phase of this project. You will look after the day-to-day record keeping and reporting, giving the project team the financial visibility they need.

You will be the go-to for management reporting and job cost tracking as the project scales. For the right candidate, there is a clear pathway to grow with the organisation as the finance function develops.

The role will be based on site at Cairncross Dockyard in Morningside, Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain the organisation's accounting system on a day-to-day basis, processing transactions accurately within established chart of accounts, cost centres, and project structures.

• Process accounts payable, including invoice coding, approval workflows, and supplier payment runs, and manage accounts receivable including invoicing, receipting, and debtor follow-up.

• Process payroll and associated compliance obligations, including STP reporting and superannuation.

• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity, with monthly balance sheet reconciliations.

• Maintain job and project cost records within the established costing framework, tracking costs against budgets and monitoring labour, subcontractor, and supplier spend.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and project financial reports, and support cashflow tracking and reporting.

• Assist with BAS, payroll tax, and other statutory reporting obligations, and maintain appropriate financial records and documentation.

About you:

• Relevant qualification or extensive experience in accounting; CPA/CA qualified an advantage.

• Minimum 5 years bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally in a construction, infrastructure, or project-based environment.

• Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliation, and month end reconciliation processes.

• Exposure to job costing or project cost tracking is desirable.

• Experience with accounting software; familiarity with MYOB (Acumatica or AccountRight) is an advantage.

• High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a reliable, methodical approach to work.
