In-House Accountant | Publishing

Love numbers as much as we love books? We're looking for an experienced In-House Accountant to become an integral part of this global Publishing team.

My client, they create beautiful books that inspire, educate and entertain readers around the world. Behind every successful title is a well-run business, and we're looking for someone who can keep their financial operations running like a bestseller.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll take ownership of their finance function, work closely with their Directors, and help support a growing Australian publishing company with customers, authors and distributors across Australia, the UK, the US and beyond.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business, including:

💰 Financial Management & Reporting

• Prepare monthly management reports including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and cashflow reporting

• Develop and manage the annual budget and financial forecasts

• Monitor performance against budget and provide meaningful financial insights

• Work closely with the Directors on business planning and financial decision-making

• Liaise with external accountants on tax, compliance and year-end reporting

📊 Accounting & Bookkeeping

• Manage our MYOB accounting system

• Process transactions accurately across multiple bank accounts, including foreign currencies

• Reconcile accounts and maintain accurate financial records

• Prepare and lodge BAS and reconcile ATO accounts

• Maintain strong financial controls and continually improve accounting processes

💳 Payments, Invoicing & Debtors

• Manage supplier payments from approval through to processing

• Issue customer invoices in accordance with contracts

• Monitor debtor balances and follow up outstanding accounts

• Ensure cashflow remains healthy and well managed

👩‍💼 Payroll & Employee Administration

• Process payroll accurately and on time

• Manage superannuation, leave records and payroll compliance

• Assist with onboarding administration including TFN declarations, superannuation and Fair Work requirements

• Complete annual workers compensation declarations

📖 Publishing Finance

Publishing has its own unique financial landscape—and you'll play an important role in it.

You'll:

• Coordinate royalty payments to our authors twice each year

• Assist with royalty advances and author payments

• Support inventory accounting across warehouses in Australia, the UK and the US

• Help manage foreign currency transactions and international sales reporting

• Respond to finance queries relating to inventory, publishing operations and author accounts

⚙️ Systems & Process Improvement

• Help improve systems and streamline financial processes

• Manage insurance renewals and broker communications

• Solve finance-related challenges as they arise

• Be the trusted finance partner for our Directors and wider team

About You

You'll bring:

• Significant experience in bookkeeping, accounting and financial reporting

• Strong MYOB experience (including inventory and foreign currency transactions)

• Excellent knowledge of BAS, GST, payroll, superannuation and ATO requirements

• Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and management reports

• Outstanding attention to detail and organisational skills

• Confidence managing reconciliations, supplier payments and debtor collections

• The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with Directors

• A proactive mindset with a passion for improving systems and finding smarter ways to work
