About Us:
Cheder Levi Yitzchok is an independent primary and secondary school located in St Kilda, offering a unique learning environment for 200 children in Prep to Year 10.
About the Role:
We're looking for an ambitious early-career accountant who wants broad exposure across financial processes and reporting, input into AI-driven process improvement and is able to partner with our school stakeholders. If you're ready to experience a full range of accounting tasks and contribute genuinely to the flow of the finance team operations, we'd love to meet you.
Our Assistant Accountant has the key responsibilities of maintaining the school's general ledger with month end reconciliations and reporting, and managing parent tuition fee receivables. Other responsibilities include supporting the financial administration associated with bank recs and cashflow, payroll processing, tuition fee collection and tax reporting (BAS / IAS). The role has key regular weekly / monthly tasks, supplemented by ad hoc tasks as required to meet the Finance Team's objectives.
You will be supported by the existing team who hold CA /CPA qualifications, to set you up for success and fast learning, in this 12 month contract position.
About Your Experience:
To be successful and thrive in this position you will require:
Relevant work experience in a Finance position, 2 to 3 years of work in an accounting or finance role is required.
Completed tertiary study in accounting and / or finance.
You have commenced your CA/CPA and are actively working to complete the qualification.
Tech-savvy with confidence in AI tools and digital innovation, using emerging technologies to simplify processes, automate tasks, improve efficiency and help shape a modern finance function.
Strong computer skills including Excel (intermediate level), and an understanding of MYOB (preferable but not mandatory).
Proactive nature, with a strong willingness to delve beyond the surface of transactions to really understand them. This can help inform process improvement opportunities.
An ability to work both independently and as part of a team environment, with strong written and verbal communication skills. This role talks with parents and staff, so interpersonal verbal skills are critical.
Strong organisational skills and a proven ability in determining priorities and tracking tasks to completion.
This is a 12 month contract position, with the ability to work 2 days a week from home. This can be discussed during the recruitment process. Role available for immediate commencement.
