Financial Controller

The role

We’re scaling fast, and we need someone to own the numbers — not report on them after the fact.

As Financial Controller you’ll run the finance function end to end: a cashflow forecast people can actually rely on, clean and timely reporting, tight compliance, and the financial discipline a high-growth FMCG business lives or dies by. You’ll lead our Finance Officer, work alongside our Fractional CFO and MD, and be the person the leadership team trusts when they ask “can we afford this, and when.”

This is a hands-on, on-site role with real autonomy. You’ll own the function day to day, with strategic guidance and mentoring from the Fractional CFO — not someone looking over your shoulder.

What you’ll own

•     Cashflow — a rolling 13-week forecast that’s accurate, current and trusted. The operating heartbeat of the business.

•     Debtor finance — managing the facility day to day: drawdowns, limits, reconciliation and the lender relationship.

•     Payables strategy — payment scheduling and supplier / ATO arrangements aligned to cash priorities.

•     Reporting — month-end close, management accounts and board-ready numbers, delivered with clarity, detail and on time, every time.

•     Compliance — BAS, GST, payroll tax, year-end and external accountant / audit liaison.

•     Controls & systems — the control environment and the integrity of our Xero data; processes that scale as we grow.

•     Budgeting & analysis — budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and margin / pricing insight that drives decisions.

•     Team — day-to-day leadership of the Finance Officer, who owns transaction processing (invoicing, AP/AR, reconciliations).

What we’re looking for

•     CA / CPA qualified

•     8+ years in finance, including real Financial Controller or senior finance experience in an SME

•     Manufacturing, FMCG or product / inventory-based business (strongly preferred)

•     Genuinely self-sufficient — able to run the function with strategic oversight, not daily supervision

•     Deep across cashflow and working capital, not just reporting — comfortable in a fast-moving, cash-focused environment

•     Debtor / invoice finance experience an advantage

•     Commercially minded; confident challenging the leadership team with the numbers

•     Hands-on. This is a build-and-run role, not a supervise-from-above one.

Reporting line

Reports to the Fractional CFO (strategic guidance, performance and mentoring); works daily with the MD. Manages the Finance Officer.
