Our client is a well-established civil contractor delivering major infrastructure, utilities and data centre projects across Australia. With a monthly turnover exceeding $8 million and a strong pipeline of work ahead, they are looking to strengthen their finance team with the addition of an experienced Accounts Payable & Payroll Officer.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the Accounts Payable function while managing weekly payroll for approximately 75 employees across a workforce of more than 200 staff.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys taking responsibility, driving accuracy and ensuring the finance function operates efficiently. You will oversee the day-to-day Accounts Payable process and provide guidance and support to two Bookkeepers responsible for transactional finance activities across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end Accounts Payable processing

• Weekly payroll processing for approximately 75 employees

• Managing supplier reconciliations and payment runs

• Reviewing invoices, purchase orders and approvals

• Providing support and direction to two Bookkeepers

• Managing supplier and payroll-related enquiries

• Assisting with Accounts Receivable and general finance administration

• Supporting month-end reporting and reconciliations

• Maintaining accurate financial and payroll records

• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and efficiencies

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years' experience in Accounts Payable and Payroll

• Strong Xero experience is essential

• Previous experience within construction, civil, engineering or project-based environments preferred

• Sound understanding of payroll compliance, awards and employment legislation

• Experience overseeing or supporting junior finance staff

• Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business
