A well-established, purpose-led organisation is seeking a seasoned Financial Controller with strong Not-for-Profit (NFP) experience to lead the finance function and support the executive team through its next phase of growth.

Reporting directly to the COO, this is a senior, hands-on role for someone who understands the complexity of NFP funding, compliance, and governance, and who enjoys partnering with leadership to ensure financial sustainability and transparency.

About the Role

You will take full ownership of the organisation’s financial operations, reporting, and compliance across multiple entities and funding streams. You will play a critical role in ensuring the organisation meets all statutory, audit, and grant-related obligations while providing clear, timely financial insight to support strategic decision-making.

This role suits an NFP Financial Controller who enjoys both rolling up their sleeves and operating as a trusted advisor to the executive team and Board.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting

• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning

• Oversee grant, funding, and acquittal reporting to government and stakeholders

• Ensure compliance with AASB, ACNC, ATO, and funding body requirements

• Manage BAS, IAS, payroll, superannuation, and statutory reporting

• Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors and regulators

• Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial governance

• Provide commercial and operational insight to senior leadership

• Lead and mentor a small finance team and external providers

About You

You are an experienced Financial Controller who has worked within Not-for-Profit, healthcare, aged care, education, or community services environments and understands the unique compliance, funding, and reporting demands of the sector.

You will bring:

• CA or CPA qualification (essential)

• 5+ years’ experience in a senior finance role within an NFP or regulated environment

• Strong knowledge of NFP accounting standards, grant funding, and acquittals

• Proven experience managing audits, budgets, and multi-funding streams

• Experience with Xero, MYOB, or similar accounting systems

• Excellent ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders

• A proactive, solutions-focused approach with high attention to detail
